“Being a law professor has allowed me to do much of the work I want to do. It has enabled me to teach, which I love; to conduct research that focuses on understanding people’s stories and experiences; and to push for change in legal education and the legal profession.

But I also see myself as an academic activist, increasing public knowledge and awareness through my research, writing and digital platforms. This role is now central to the work I continue to do.”

Over the last 40 years, Julie has worked on campaigns for reproductive rights, childrens’ rights issues, calling out racism in policing, nuclear disarmament, boycotts of apartheid South Africa, stereotypes of Muslims and Islamophobia, redress for victims of clerical abuse, and sexual violence policies in universities. All these issues remain very important to her, and she is happy to hear from anyone with related challenges.
